What are some things you can do to get rid of a migraine?
I’ve had one for about 2 days now and it wont go away. I’ve tried sleeping most of the time but I just wake up and its worse and I usually wake up feeling nauseated. And I’ve tried taking Excedrin Migraine but that isnt helping =(

A cold cloth across the eyes and a nap in the dark helps me. Extra strength Tylenol works better for me than excedrin. Some people have to go to the hospital for a demerol shot if it won’t go away. Good luck!
Rest.
Well excederin works instantley for me. Have you been to the doctor to maybe prescribe something stronger. Also depends on how long you have been taken excedrin. It might be in your blood stream so much that it no longer works for you. Also staying of off the computer for a while will help. Bright lights and nose tend to make it worst.
They sell soft gel-like squares that you place on your head, they stick there and provide the cool feeling that relieves.
Migraines are frequently described as “spreading depression,” a kind of seizure disorder in which pain fibers in the brain, blood vessels supplying the brain, and chemical balances all go awry at the same time. They can also be linked to toxichemical exposure, allergies, drug use, and other things.
Stress, high altitudes, and back issues can also be the cause. Avoid loud noises, strong odors, and smoke.
The problem with migraines is no single drug is enough to bring relief.
Cayenne can be used at the BEGINNING of an attack. Things that can be taken on going for relief include Dong quai, feverfew, or ginko. Avoid foods with the amino acid tyramine which includes beer, hard cheese, chocolate, corned beef, dried meats, soy sauce, lima beans, pickled herring, red wine, yeast, anchovies. Avoid bingeing on sweets or starches, eliminate coffee and other caffeine.
Also fish oil containing docosahexaenoic acid DHA and EPA help as well as calcium-magnesium supplements.
Including almonds, almond milk, watercress, parsley, garlic, cherries, and fresh pineapple to your diet also help.
I wish you the best!!
sleep
For some reason, hot tea seems to help. The caffeine helps faster than over the counter pain medication. (Caffeinated soda can work too, if you don’t mind the extra sugar.) Low lights, low noise from a radio or TV helps by being a little distracting. A warm bath and a cold compress on the forehead is soothing.
If sleeping isn’t working, then you might try moving about. Walking where you can control the light and noise levels helps. You might try doing some simple housework that doesn’t involve bending over or the use of chemicals, such as sweeping or folding clothes, even ironing.
Would avoid activities that require focused eye use such as reading or needlework. Would avoid spicy foods, chocolate, processed lunch meats and red wine or any other trigger foods you may have. Would avoid stress, loud or sudden noises, and bright lights.
The goal is distraction, listening to favorite music, movies, or books on tape are all a big help.
If nothing else works, talk to your doctor, there are some prescription medications that should help. If you had rather not try stronger pain relievers, look for homeopathic remedies such as acupuncture and meditation. Good luck.
Complete darkness. For some reason that seems to help me.
You might be surprised about how much relief you could get from and good neck massage.
I can always make my husbands headaches go away.
If you touch your neck, I bet it is in knots.
A quick visit to the chiro could really help.
Hope you feel better.
Hey- Migraine Headaches are not to be taken lightly, especially if you’ve been suffering from one the last 2 days. A few things to consider: Have you been running a fever- Do you have the chills- Do you have a history of this type of headache? There is a possibility that the headache could be a result of dehydration or another underlying illness, such as a Urinary Tract/Bladder Infection. Sometimes a person doesn’t even know this is going on…..About 2 years ago I landed in the Hospital requiring IV Antibiotic treatment for just that- and was severely dehydrated. Bad headaches sometimes are a symptom of the dehydration. Felt like a frying pan had been hitting my head several times- worse Headache ever…….
As hard as it is to keep things down, try to drink LOTS of fluid, not pop, but, water or juice. Have you ever tried the product Thermacare? This is like having a heating pad without the electric cord attached. This heat is deep penetrating, and lasts for up to 8 hours. Placing one of these on the back of your neck could really help ease the headache. Complete darkness- cold rag on the head, also helps. What concerns me is the 48 hours you’ve been suffering. If things get real bad without relief, may need to go to a Physician and get labwork/urinalysis ran to rule out infection, dehydration, etc.
Also, Ibuprophen is an anti-inflammatory, which helps ease the pain from a migraine. Take up to 800 mg every 6 hours as needed.
These are just a few ideas….Here are some websites which will hopefully help you with a solution or give you some ideas……
Good luck, get better soon, and take care!!
when i get em’ i take nice hot showers for like an hour or get a hot washrag and put it on your head
Put a ice bag over your head to calm it down or rest it up. Also you could do the Randy Orton Punt to someone to get over a migraine, you will get over yours but someone else will have one after the punt.
