Is there any harm in not taking meds for intense migraine?
I am trying to wean myself off of medicines used for relief of migraines. Is there any harm in letting a migraine rage? What exactly is going on during an intensive migraine, and is there any lasting effects in not stopping the process?

You should discuss this with your doctor, because I do not know the details of your migraine history or treatment. Are you are medications to suppress migraines and/or as needed when migraines occur? If you are on a suppressive medication, I would strongly recommend you discuss this with your doctor before stopping this. If you stop your medications your migraines may worsen and you could develop status migrainous. Status migrainous is a prolonged, severe migraine that might not respond as well to medications. The pain of a Migraine is from dilated blood vessels in the brain and the inflammation of tissue and nerves around those blood vessels. Extended dilation of the blood vessels puts us at increased risk of stroke. Thus, it’s important to stop a Migraine attack, as opposed to simply masking the pain with pain medications, as soon as possible.
